BENGALURU: A minor girl, along with his friends, allegedly smothered her mother to death near the Circle Maramma temple in Subramanyapura in the city. The deceased, Nethravathi (35), worked as an assistant at a loan recovery firm.
The daughter allegedly smothered her mother to death with the help of five of her friends and later hanged her body to make it look like suicide. The incident took place on October 25.
Initially, the police had registered a case of suicide based on the scene of the crime, but later found the daughter’s involvement after her aunt Anitha lodged a complaint suspecting foul play at the Subramanyapura police station. In the complaint, Anitha noted that the deceased’s daughter was nowhere to be seen after her sister’s death. Two days later, the daughter returned home.
Anitha said she went to Netravati’s house the day before her death and noticed five friends of her niece. Later, she saw Nethravathi hanging with a towel.
Netravati’s daughter admitted that she went to her friends’ house out of fear. The police investigation revealed that the daughter had conspired with her friends to kill her mother after she threatened to call the police due to the daughter’s friends visiting their home. She also claimed that she was threatened by her friends not to reveal the truth and had gone into hiding for a couple of days before returning home.
