BENGALURU: A 24-year-old married woman committed suicide by hanging herself on the day of Bheemana Amavasya on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Spandana.
According to the police, Spandana suspected her husband, Abhishek, of having an extramarital affair with another woman, which led to frequent quarrels between the couple.
The couple had registered their marriage despite opposition from Spandana’s parents. Abhishek was receiving calls from an unknown woman, and Spandana suspected that he was having an affair with her.
On the day of the incident, Spandana performed the Bheemana Amavasya rituals with her husband, but when the unidentified woman called Abhishek again, Spandana got upset and hanged herself.
Earlier, there were allegations that Abhishek and his family were harassing Spandana for dowry, and a compromise was reached after Spandana’s family paid Rs 5 lakh. However, Spandana’s family alleged that Abhishek and his mother Lakshmamma continued to harass her. Spandana told her father about the harassment, the family said.
Spandana’s family has filed a complaint with the Madanayakanahalli police station and an FIR has been registered against Abhishek and Lakshmamma. The police are investigating further.
