Tribal families evicted from Nagarahole forest amid tension

Six new huts erected by the forest dwellers were taken down by the officials.

MADIKERI: Tension prevailed for some time when the Forest Department officials, along with the police, arrived at Attur Kolli in the Nagarahole forest area to evict some forest dwellers who had illegally built huts, on Thursday.

A few adivasi families had built six huts in the Attur Kolli forest range after illegally entering the forest. A verbal dispute ensued when the Forest officials and police landed there to evict the families who even tried to prevent the eviction claiming high-handedness by the officials.

Tension prevailed for a few hours due to the situation. A forest officer said they have been evicting illegal forest dweller from May 5 and pointed out that though there are orders not to undertake any new activity within forests, the families had built six huts.
