MANDYA: A notorious thief involved in IPL betting was arrested by the Mandya police. The accused, identified as Santosh alias IPL Santosh, hails from Mudigere village in Hassan district.
Originally a farmer, he took to stealing and he would invest the stolen money in betting on IPL matches.
The accused had committed 10 burglaries in various police station jurisdictions, including Bindiganavile, Bellur, Nagamangala, Turuvekere and Huliyurdurga. He would break into houses when no one was around and steal valuables.
A special team led Nagamangala CPI Niranjan, and consisting of PSI Ravikumar and Maruthi, among others, was formed to track down the accused after the frequent theft cases in this area. Based on technical evidence, the team successfully apprehended Santosh. The police seized gold ornaments worth Rs 40 lakh from the accused.
