BENGALURU: Kamalamma Ramamurthy, Kannada activist and wife of M Ramamurthy, the creator of the Karnataka flag, passed away at the age of 100. She died on Monday morning at her residence in Banashankari. Family members were performed funeral rites today.

Kamalamma Ramamurthy, the wife of the late M Ramamurthy, was forgotten by the government. Despite the government felicitating her during the Karnataka Suvarna Mahotsav, it failed to provide her with any significant support in her old age.

For the past 50 years, Kamalamma had been living in an old age home in Bengaluru, with no family members to care for her. Recently, she sustained injuries after a fall and was admitted to the Sevakshetra hospital for treatment.

The government neglected Kamalamma Ramamurthy, who had fought for the state’s land, language and culture, and did not even provide her with an old-age pension. Despite requests from Kannada organisations to appoint caregivers and cover hospital expenses, the government did not respond.
