Water enters wedding hall in Madikeri due to incessant rain

Incessant rain has caused widespread damage in Madikeri and other parts of Kodagu district.

MADIKERI: With the incessant downpour, rain water entered Cauvery Hall in Madikeri on Sunday afternoon, where a wedding as taking place, leaving the families of the bride and groom, and also the guests, shocked.

Residents of Muliya Layout in the city was also completely flooded with residents fearing that the rain water would enter their compounds. The residents recounted that in 2018 too, the locality had been similarly flooded. In the city, rajakaluves are overflowing while craters have appeared on roads.

Meanwhile, in other parts of the district too, normal life has been thrown out of gear due to the rain and wind. Rivers and streams are overflowing while electricity poles, affecting power supply, and trees were uprooted at several places.

A tree fell on a truck on the Mangaluru road, but luckily no one was hurt. At Amathi, a tree fell on a house and the water level has also risen at Bhagamandala. A red alert has been sounded for the district till May 28.

At Betri Hemmadi village, the overflowing Cauvery river entered farms and estates while a retaining wall collapsed at Nehru Circle in Virajpet. Chowdikatte and Shanti Nagar in Titimathi panchayat limits were also flooded.
