Congress leadaers and activists took out a rally in Vijayapura on Monday.

VIJAYAPURA: Congress leaders on Monday took out a protest rally from the Ambedkar Circle here to condemn the alleged objectionable remarks made by expelled BJP Vijayapura MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal against Prophet Mohammed.

Minister Shivanand Patil, MLA Vijayanand Kashappanavar, Yeshwantaraogouda Patil and other leader took part in the protest and submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner demanding action against Yatnal. Raising slogans against the MLA, they warned of intensifying their protest if not action is taken against Yatnal.

Moulvi Tanveer Peera warned, “Today, only 10 per cent of us have gathered here. If no action is taken against Yatnal, we will intensify our protest”.

Congress MLA Vijayanand Kashappanavar said it is not right for Yatnal to speak against the Prophet. Quoting from Basavanna’s Vachanas that compassion is the base of all religions, he said, “Prophet Mohammed spoke of kindness towards animals 1,400 years ago. Yatnal has no compassion or dharma, he’s a non-entity and his brain and tongue have no relation”.

Later, Yatnal was burnt in effigy by the Congress leaders and activists. They also raised slogans against him.
