HAVERI: A thief was arrested by the Haveri police in connection with a case of theft of Rs 33 lakh. The accused, A Jagadish (28) from Andhra Pradesh, had stolen the money by breaking the glass of a car.
The incident was captured on CCTV camera. The police have recovered Rs 30 lakh in cash from the accused.
The complainant, Santosh, a civil contractor had withdrawn Rs 33 lakhs from the Union Bank of India in Haveri. He had parked his car in front of his house at 4.05 pm on March 6, left the money in the car, and went inside. After having lunch at home, when he returned to the car at 5.20 pm, he found that the car’s window had been broken and the cash missing.
The police investigation revealed that four people on two bikes were involved in the theft. One of them broke the glass and took the cash, while the others escaped on the bike. A case was registered at Haveri City Police Station regarding the incident.
