60 flights affected at KIA, 5 activists arrested for trying to protest on flight

There was a huge rush of passengers at the departure gate of KIA on Friday morning.

BENGALURU: With the state shutting down over the Cauvery river water sharing issue, over 60 flights were cancelled since midnight at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). These include 44 departures and 16 arrivals, according to the airport authorities.

Meanwhile, travellers had started pouring in at the airport in the wee hours itself and the departure gate was packed. Traffic was also affected at the airport due to the high number of cabs which arrived. As the day rolled over, the number of vehicles on the airport drop also witnessed a significant drop.

Some activists who had booked tickets on a IndiGo flight were arrested for trying to stage protest.

Meanwhile, the police detained some Kannnada activists who tried to lay siege at the arrival gate. The activists were bundled into cars and taken away. The airport security personnel also arrested five activists of the Namma Karnataka Sene who had purchased tickets for an IndiGo flight and were planning to stage protest on the plane.

Some other activists were bundled away in cars.

Activists of the Namma Karnataka Sene, led by Basavaraj Padukone, attempted to lay siege to the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), raising slogans, but were detained by the police.
