VIJAYAPURA: A group of farmers rescued 60 calves that were being transported in a pickup truck after it overturned near Anjutagi in Indi taluk on Friday night. The occupants of the vehicle, however, fled the scene.

Sharp weapons were found in another vehicle.

The pickup truck was coming from Satara in Maharashtra when it overturned. It is suspected that the calves were being transported illegally for slaughter as sharp weapons were also found in another vehicle accompanying the pickup truck. The calves were also tied up and their mouths bound with tape.

The occupants of the vehicle abandoned it after the accident and fled. The Indi Rural police visited the spot and have registered a case.
