50 per cent rebate on traffic fines likely to be extended for 10 more days

BENGALURU: Karnataka High Court Justice Veerappa, who is also executive chairman of the Karnataka Legal Services Authority, said that the time for payment of pending fines for traffic violations with 50 per cent rebate will be extended from February 14 to February 24.

Justice Veerappa informed that an official order will be issued in this regard on February 14. Earlier, the last date to pay the pending fines was February 11 and citizens had requested Special Commissioner (Traffic), Dr M A Saleem to extend the scheme for two more weeks.

During a press conference, Justice Veerappa said that they were trying to convince the government to have the rebate scheme for three months in view of the huge number of cases. The Special Traffic Commissioner also wrote a letter to the government and many citizens had also appealed for extension of time. More than two crore traffic cases are pending and more than Rs 800 crore in fines remains to be collected.
