4 live grenades recovered from Kodigehalli house of terror suspect

BENGALURU: A day after the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police arrested five terror suspects in Bengaluru, four live hand grenades were found at a house in Kodigehalli based on information provided by one of the accused.

Addressing a press conference, Joint Commissioner of Police Sharanappa S D said the five accused were produced before a cout yesterday and the police took them into custody for seven days.

“During questioning, the accused No. 5 (Jahid Tabrez) admitted to receiving some articles from the absconding accused (Junaid Ahmed) which he had kept in the locker of an almirah in his house. He hinted that it could be grenades and accordingly, the investigating officer, along with the BDDS and forensic teams, searched the almirah and found four live grenades. Further investigation is under way”, he said.

Sharanappa said the absconding accused Junaid had arranged to hand over the grenades to Tabrez through some other person. “We are investigating who delivered the grenades to Tabrez and when”, the joint commissioner said. He also added that the police plan to take the main accused, T Nasir, who is already lodged in the Parappana Agrahara central prison, into custody for questioning.

On Wednesday, the police had filed an FIR against seven terror suspects, including the five arrested. In the FIR, T Nasir has been named as accused No. 1, Junaid Ahmed, who is absconding, as the second accused, Syed Suhail Khan (A3), Mohammed Umer (A4), Jahid Tabrez (A5), Syed Mudassir Pasha (A6) and Mohammed Faizal Rabbani (A7). The accused have been booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act apart from various other IPC sections.
