BENGALURU: The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has fined 362 families for misusing drinking water. The BWSSB has already enforced several rules to prevent misuse of water, as the city is already facing water crisis.
The water board has announced a fine of Rs 5,000 if drinking water is used for other purposes. So far, it has imposed fines of Rs 18 lakh on 362 people for violating the rules.
BWSSB chairman Dr V Ram Prasath Manohar, said, “We have fined 362 people Rs 5,000 each. Use of drinking water for other purposes has come down by almost 80 to 90 per cent. If citizens see someone misusing drinking water, they can report to us. The drive to conserve water will continue”.
So far, 32 cases have been reported in Bangalore Southwest-2 and fines of Rs 1.60 lakh imposed. The BWSSB has fined 21 people in Bangalore East Zone totalling Rs 1.5 lakh. There are 12 each cases reported from Bangalore South Zone-1, North Zone-1, North Zone-2 and violators fined Rs 1,80,000 in all.
