RAICHUR: A couple and their nephew died after incessant rain caused a wall and the roof of their house to collapse at Kurdi village in Manvi taluk on Sunday night. The deceased have been identified as Paramesh (45), his wife Jayamma (39) and his brother’s son Bharath.
The wall of the house collapsed in the wee hours, when they were sleeping. Paramesh and Jayamma died on the spot, while the boy, Bharat, died on the way to the Manvi taluk hospital.
“It was raining heavily, and my brother, sister-in-law, and son were sleeping. Around 2 or 3 am, the wall collapsed on them. We noticed it around 5 am. They were dead. My son was taken to the hospital, but he passed away,”said Nagaraj, Paramesh’s brother.
“The incessant rain in Raichur caused the wall of the house to collapse. As per NDRF and SDRF rules, a total compensation of Rs 15 lakh will be provided to the family members of the deceased. Since the house has completely collapsed, we will provide compensation for construction of the house. After we finish all the procedures, we will distribute the cheque to the family ,” said Raichur Rural MLA Basanagouda Daddal.
The incident occurred in Manvi police station limits.
