16-year-old boy dies after suffering electric shock while playing cricket in Dharwad

DHARWAD: A 16-year-old boy died of electrocution after he came in contact with a live wire while playing cricket in Madihala Siddarama Colony of Dharwad City.

The deceased has been identified as Shreyas Sinnura (16). He was the only son of his parents. He was studying SSLC at Rajiv Gandhi School in Dharwad. Shreyas was playing cricket in a vacant site behind his house and came in contact with a live wire when he attempted to catch a ball.

On Friday evening, Shreyas’ friends called him to play when he returned from school. He went to play cricket behind his house near an under-construction building and was electrocuted within 10 minutes.

His parents rushed to the spot as soon they heard about his electrocution and they too suffered electric shock when they attempted to rescue hims. Ashok, the father of Shreyas, said that his son was immediately admitted to a hospital, but it did not help.

Another 10-year-old boy, Pranav, who went to save Shreyas, also got electrocuted. The injured boy has been admitted to a private hospital and is being treated. The body of Shreyas has been shifted to the district hospital mortuary here.

A case has been registered in this regard at the Dharwad Town police station.
