BELAGAVI: A group of farmers who had given up their fertile land to the Minor Irrigation department to build a tank in the village are yet to received compensation even after 15 years.

The farmers say none of the MLAs have come to their aid.

The Minor Irrigation needed land to build a tank and 40 farmers of Atiwad village in the taluk have up a total of 60 acres after they were assured of compensation. However, the Minor Irrigation Department officials have been making the farmers run from pillar to post for the compensation for the last 15 years.

The farmers staged a protest by standing in the tank water and have demanded that the compensation due to them should be released at the earliest.
