CHIKKAMAGALURU: A 15-year-old student committed suicide by hanging himself in a hostel of a private school over alleged torture by a woman, in Koppa. The deceased student is Srinivas (15), who was studying in 9th standard.

Srinivas had dinner on Sunday night and went to bed along with his friends. He committed suicide around 5 am when the other students were sleeping. He hanged himself in his room on the 3rd floor of the school hostel by tying a saree to the iron rod on the roof.

Srinivas’s father is a retired armyman. After retiring from the army, he was working as a village accountant in Koppa. He admitted Srinivas to the hostel a month ago as he was transferred from Koppa to Ajjampur.

Srinivas, who was in the school hostel for a month, committed suicide in the hostel on August 22 in the morning. Following the incident, two to three pieces of a death note were found by police after six days.

As per the death note, he took the extreme step because an auntie harassed him to give Rs 3,000 instead of the Rs 750 that he had borrowed from her. A case has been registered in Koppa police station. The police also visited the hostel.

The father of Srinivasa has demanded that those responsible for his death be severely punished. After the death note was found, the boy’s parents and relatives have questioned who the woman was, who gave money to the boy and why she gave it.

The parents are also suspecting the hostel warden or other female staff who paid him in the hostel and have demanded that the boy’s death should be thoroughly investigated. They have warned the government that they will go on a hunger strike in front of the DC office if justice is not provided for their son’s death.
