About 126 trees were chopped down illegally in Belur taluk.

HASSAN: The district forest officer (DFO) has ordered suspension of all timber logging permits in Sakleshpur and Belur after illegal cutting of trees came to light. The range forest officers (RFO) have been asked to keep all permits in abeyance till the investigation into the case is completed.

Recently, 126 huge trees were found chopped on Survey No. 16 in Nandagondanahalli in Belur taluk. It is suspected that the trees were illegally chopped and were to be transported.

After the illegal axing of trees came to light, Forest Department officials visited the spot. A case has been registered in this connection.
