MANDYA: A 10-year-old girl’s body was found in the water sump of an under-construction house at Malavalli in Mandya district. The deceased has been identified as Divya (10), daughter Ashwini and Sureshkumar.
Divya was studying in Class 4 at a school in Malavalli and was also going for private tuitions. Around 11 am on Tuesday, she left her house for tuition but did not return home.
Her parents went to the tuition centre and inquired about her, but the teacher there said that she had already left. Then the parents, fearing child-lifters, lodged a complaint at a police station.
Divya’s body was found in the sump at the under-construction house just below where she attended tuitions. The body had wound marks. The police suspect rape and murder, and the body was sent to the Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) for post mortem.
A case has been registered at Malavalli town police, and the police have detained two people and are interrogating them.
