Youth who went swimming in river found dead in Karwar

KARWAR: A youth, who had gone swimming with his friends near Kaigadi bridge in Ankola taluk on Wednesday, was found dead in the river close to the spot where he went missing on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Sagar Devadiga from Sabageri in Ankola taluk.

A group of six youths had gone swimming when Sagar went missing. Despite search efforts by the police, forest department, and fire brigade, he was not found on Wednesday. On Thursday, his body was found floating in the water near the same location today.

The body was recovered by locals including Ganapa Siddi, Rama Siddi, Venkata Siddi and Narayana Siddi, residents of Kaigadi, who were part of the search operation. A case has been registered at the Ankola police station.

In a separate incident, a Purse Siene boat named ‘Sri Sharadamba’ sank at the Belekeri Port in Uttara Kannada district due to rough waves, resulting in significant damage worth lakhs. The boat was reportedly stationed at the port when the incident occurred.

The Coast Guard and police personnel arrived at the scene to assess the situation and investigate the cause of the damage. Over the last days, the district has faced severe weather conditions, with heavy rainfall causing widespread flooding and damage to homes, roads, and agricultural lands.
