Youth kills friend after drunken brawl and post selfie video with body online, arrested

HASSAN: The police have arrested a 21-year-old youth after he murdered a friend and posted a selfie with the victim’s body in a drunk state at Doddakanagalu village in Alur taluk. The arrested accused was identfied as Ullas.

Ullas, an autorickshaw driver from Doddakanagalu village had been friends with the victim, Keerthi, also an autorickshaw driver from Hassan, for two years. Police Superintendent Mohammed Sujeetha said Ullas and Keerthi had consumed liquor with friends on December 8, and during a conversation, Ullas slapped Keerthi on the cheek. This led to a heated argument, and in a fit of rage, Ullas hit Keerthi on the head with a stone, killing him.

Ullas then took a selfie video with the victim’s body, claiming responsibility for the murder, and posted it online. The video went viral on December 9, prompting the police to launch a search for the accused. The police finally tracked down Ullas and arrested him, the SP said.

During the spot inspection on Thursday, Ullas revealed the location of the crime and showed the police the stone used to kill Keerthi. The police are still searching for the other two accused involved in the crime. The investigation is ongoing, and the police are trying to determine if Ullas was under the influence of any substances at the time of the crime, the SP added.
