Youth beaten up for putting up Kannada flag in Hukkeri village, one arrested

CHIKKODI: A Kannadiga youth was beaten up by some Maratha community members for putting up a Kannada flag beside a Shivaji statue at Ankali village of Hukkeri taluk of Belagavi. Following a complaint, the police have arrested one of the five attackers.

A group of men from the Maratha community thrashed the youth and forced him to remove the flag. One of the men slapped the youth and manhandled him while using abusive language.

A video of the Maratha community men attacking the Kannadiga has gone viral on social media following which the police have taken up the case.

A case has been registered against five Maratha community members at the Sankeshwar police station. One person has been arrested while the police are on the lookout for the remaining four accused who are absconding.
