CHITRADURGA: A youth who was dropping off a Muslim colleague after work was assaulted by a group of youths from the woman’s community on Thursday late evening. On Friday, the girl lodged a complaint against the youth alleging that he molested her while riding on the two-wheeler.
Umesh, a resident of Eerajjanahatti, works at the Kohinoor garment store in the city. Around 8 pm on Thursday, he was heading towards Chelugudda to drop off his colleague Parveen after work when about five youths stopped him and assaulted him for offering a lift to a Muslim woman. They abused and assaulted him, leaving him badly injured in the head and other places.
Umesh later lodged a complaint with the Chitradurga Town police following with the SP Dharmendar Kumar and Deputy SP Dinakar visited him at the government hospital where he was admitted. Meanwhile, Hindu activists gathered in front of the hospital and staged a protest demanding action against the culprits.
In a turn of events, the woman on Friday lodged a complaint against Umesh alleging that he molested her and behaved indecently when dropping her off. Instead of stopping at Kanaka Circle, Umesh tried to take her towards Chandravalli Thota when she raised an alarm. Hearing this, her brother’s friends came to her rescue and sent her home, she claimed.
