BELAGAVI: A youth was assaulted by members of the Maratha community for displaying a Kannada flag during the Ramanavami celebration at Tilak Chowk here on Thursday evening.
A grand procession was organised as part of the Ramanavami occasion and youths carrying Bhagwa flags were dancing to DJ music. At this time, ayouth name Manjunath Danga raised a Kannada flag in a procession following which some Maratha community youths started an argument with him opposing the Kannada flag and assaulted Manjunath. The youths group also insulted the Kannada flag, it is said.
Some pro-Kannada activists later lodged a complaint at the Khade Bazaar police station. Further investigation is under way.
