PURNIA (Bihar): Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said that any political leader who speaks about protecting the land of farmers will be attacked by media round the clock.

Rahul Gandhi interacted with farmers in Bihar’s Purnia district today as his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra continues its journey from West Bengal to Bihar.

“Any political leader who will speak about protecting the land of farmers will be attacked by media round the clock. Here, the Government of India is violating the Land Acquisition Act. I can raise this issue for you at the Parliament. I can’t give you a guarantee that PM Modi will do anything about it but I can raise this issue for you. I can assure you that once our government comes to power, we will do this for you”, he said.

“Farmers are being surrounded from all sides. The land is taken from you and given to big industrialists like Adani Ji as a gift. Narendra Modi tried to do the biggest thing, he brought three black laws and what was yours was taken away from you. The good thing is that the farmers of the country did not step back”, he added.

The Congress leader further said that It is strange that Rs 14 lakh crore can be forgiven to the wealthy people but not to the farmers.

“I think that farmers are the backbone of the country. Strangely, Rs 14 lakh crore can be forgiven to the farmers but not to the farmers. Why is this injustice happening? If we do not protect the farmers, whether it is about MSP, loan waiver or getting fair prices, then the country cannot move forward”, Rahul said.

He asserted that at the time when Congress was in power in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, the government gave the right price to farmers. “I am not speaking empty words. We had waived Rs 72,000 crore to the farmers. We had brought the Land Tribunal Bill. When we had governments in Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, we used to pay the right price to the farmers. We have shown it by working”, he said. (ANI)
