CHIKKAMAGALURU: A young woman from Devalapura village in Belur taluk of Hassan district was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the bathroom of a homestay facility at Handi village in Mudigere taluk of the district. The deceased has been identified as Ranjitha (27).

Ranjitha had arrived in Mudigere with her friend Rekha from Davanagere, who is originally from Bengaluru, to attend the engagement ceremony of Rekha’s friend on Friday evening.

On Saturday morning (October 25), Rekha had taken a bath and left the bathroom, while Ranjitha went in to take a bath. When Ranjitha didn’t come out for a long time, and the sound of water flowing from the tap continued, Rekha knocked on the door. However, there was no response. Rekha then looked through the window and saw Ranjitha collapsed on the bathroom floor.

Rekha immediately informed the homestay staff who broke open the door. Ranjitha was found unconscious and was rushed to a private hospital in Mudigere where she was declared brought dead by the doctors.

The exact cause of death is still unknown, with suspicion of gas leakage from the geyser or heart attack. However, the police investigation has revealed that the bathroom had proper ventilation and there were no signs of gas leakage.

It is possible that Ranjitha may have died due to a heart attack or some other reason, but the post-mortem report will confirm the exact cause of death. A case has been registered at the Aldur police station in this regard.
