BELAGAVI: A young married woman attempted suicide by consuming poison due to alleged dowry harassment from her husband and in-laws, at her parental home. She is now undergoing treatment at the Belagavi Institute of Medical Science (BIMS) Hospital.
Kanavika (20) recently got married to Ganesh Godyalkar, who claimed to be a software engineer and soon, after, the harassment for dowry started, it is alleged. A medico-legal case has been registered in this connection.
Kanavika had earlier lodged a complaint with the women’s police naming her husband Ganesh, his father Thammanna, mother Sujatha, elder sister Sowmya and uncle Paramesh Kyarashetty and accusing them of harassment for dowry. However, her husband and in-laws assured that they would not continue their ways and took her back.
However, she has now said that her in-laws took Rs 7 lakh in parts from her mother and that her husband’s uncle Paramesh had even sexually assaulted her. A separate case has now been registered at the women’s police station.
