Young couple seeks police protection after threat from girl’s family

The couple are from the same village and said they were in a relationship for the last six years.

BELAGAVI: A young couple from Dhavaleshwar village in Mudalagi taluk has approached the police seeking protection after alleged threats from the girl’s family.

Siddappa Shivappa Dhavaleshwar and Shweta Chandrashekar Poojary were in love and got married at a temple after eloping. The couple got married despite opposition from the girl’s family though they belong to the same caste.

After the girl’s family allegedly threatened Siddappa of life, the couple visited the police superintendent’s office on Friday seeking protection. The couple now live in Dharwad and Siddappa said he works in a hotel.

Siddappa said they had got married in a temple about a month ago but Shweta’s family was harassing them. “They claim that Shweta was kidnapped. They threatened that they would chop me if we return to the village. We have been in a relationship for six years”, he said.
