BELAGAVI: Close on the heels of the spate of deaths of new mothers at the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS), another nursing mother died at the hospital on Wednesday. The deceased is Pooja Adiveppa Khadakbavi (25), a resident of Kundaragi village in Gokak taluk.
Pooja was admitted to the hospital on December 24 and gave birth to a baby boy on Wednesday afternoon. However, she suffered seizures and died after child birth. Family members alleged that they were called and informed about her death and the body was handed over to them without even conducting an autopsy.
However, Dr Vasanth Gabbur of the hospital said Pooja was admitted to the hospital at 11 pm on December 24 in an unconscious state. “This was Pooja’s fifth delivery and she already has three children. She had undergone one abortion and was mentally unstable for about seven months. She was also anaemic”, he said.
