RAICHUR: Coal theft worth crores of rupees has been exposed at the Yermarus Thermal Power Station (YTPS) in Raichur. After a Public TV report, the YTPS authorities have finally admitted to the theft and registered a case with the Raichur Rural police station.

The complaint was filed by Chief Engineer Chandrashekar Shetty of the YTPS fuel management division against Power Mech company vice-president Ajay Kumar K and company manager Surendranath. The complaint alleges that 200 tons of coal worth Rs 10 lakh was illegally transported out of the plant between May 15 and December 11, 2025.

The coal was being transported from Telangana’s Singareni coal mines to YTPS in 3-4 rakes daily, with 180-240 wagons carrying 12,000-16,000 tons of coal. The theft occurred as the wagons were not being fully unloaded, with coal being left behind and stolen.
