MYSURU: Mysuru-Kodagu BJP Lok Sabha member Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar has opposed the construction of flyovers within the city, stating that Jhansi Lakshmi Bai Road and Vinoba Road are heritage roads and should be preserved. He argued that constructing flyovers without public opinion and destroying trees is not acceptable.

Yaduveer suggested that instead of flyovers, the government should consider constructing an underground Metro system, similar to Mumbai’s, which would be a more sustainable solution. He emphasized that the development work should be carried out keeping in mind the population of Mysuru and the needs of the local people.

Regarding the Greater Mysuru project, Yaduveer stresses the need for proper planning and preparation to avoid haphazard development, as seen in Bengaluru. He also mentioned that the construction of flyovers is not a permanent solution and that the government should focus on alternative modes of transportation.

“The detailed project report has also been prepared and I oppose this. The city’s beauty should not be marred in the name of development and its heritage should be preserved. Even the chief minister has stressed on maintaining the city’s heritage during the Greater Mysuru meeting”, he noted.

On the issue of tiger attacks, Yaduveer attributed it to the growth of Lantana in the forest, which is forcing herbivores to venture out in search of food, followed by tigers. He suggests a comprehensive study on the issue, rather than blaming resorts and safaris. “Resorts on the edge of the forests and safaris are not to blame for this, he said”.
