Woman tied to electricity pole, thrashed after son elopes with girl in Ranebennur taluk

HAVERI: A woman from Aremallapur village of Ranebennur taluk, was tied to an electricity pole and thrashed by an angry mob after her son eloped with a girl. The incident took place four days ago, but came to light only now.

The victim is 50-year-old Hanumavva Medleri and the accused have been identified as Chandrappa, Gangappa and Gahitevva. It is alleged that Hanumavva’s son eloped with a girl following which she was beaten up by the accused and tied to an electricity pole.

On coming to know about the girl eloping with Hanumavva’s son, her family members barged into the youth’s house, dragged away his mother on the road, pulled her, tied her to an electricity pole and treated her inhumanely. The case took place under the jurisdiction of the Ranebennur Rural police station.

District Superintendent of Police Anshu Kumar said the three accused have been arrested in connection with the assault case. “The woman is safe and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Davanagere. We are on the lookout for for the missing youth and girl. It is said that both are majors and have been in love with each other for two years. The investigation is under way and we will trace them soon”, he added.
