Woman techie dies of suffocation after fire breaks out in flat at Ramamurthy Nagar

Police are investigating the cause of the fire.

BENGALURU: A woman software engineer hailing from Mangaluru, died in a suspected fire incident at her rented flat at Subramanya Layout in Ramamurthy Nagar. She had been living in Bengaluru for the past one year for work.

Sharmila (34) was working as a software engineer at an Accenture. Around 10.30 pm on January 3, smoke was seen coming from her room, prompting the landlord Vijayendra to inform the Ramamurthy Nagar police. Firefighters and police arrived, broke open the door, and found Sharmila unconscious.

She was taken to a local hospital, where she was declared dead. The police suspect that a fire might have broken out in the living room and bedroom, causing her to faint and succumb to smoke inhalation. The exact cause of the fire is being investigated, with possibilities including a short circuit, bed lamp, or candle.

Sharmila was the daughter of one Kushalappa. The police have registered a case and are awaiting the forensic report to determine the cause of the fire.
