BENGALURU: A woman sustained injuries in two of her fingers when she resisted a chain-snatching attempt by thieves who robbed 55 grams of gold by threatening her and another woman by placing a machete at their neck from behind in Eshwari Nagar under Girinagar police station limits.
Bengaluru is experiencing a surge in chain-snatching incidents with this being the latest. Two women, Usha and Varalakshmi, were targeted by two bike-borne thieves while returning from a Ganesha immersion procession event.
The thieves snatched Usha’s 10-gram gold chain and Varalakshmi’s 45-gram gold chain after cutting her two fingers when she resisted. A case has been registered at the Girinagar police station.
Separate incidents of chain-snatching and mobile theft have also been reported in other areas, including Indira Nagar, Kothanur and Konanakunte police station limits. The Bengaluru police have formed a special team to investigate these cases and track down the accused.
