CHIKKODI: A woman and her son, who were coming from Sangli in Maharashtra on a two-wheeler, were allegedly assaulted and abused in foul language by the Ankali police for not wearing helmets.

The mother-son duo of Susheela Limbigidada and Hrishikesh Limbigidada got into an argument with the police over the issue of paying the fine for violating traffic rules when the police allegedly assaulted the youth. When Susheela stepped in, she too was assaulted, she alleged.

Hrishikesh reportedly told the police that he had only Rs 500 in cash with him and said he needed Rs 200 to fill petrol. He offered to pay Rs 300 when the argument broke out. He was also booked for obstructing the police from discharging their duty.

Their advocate Mithun said, “Susheela and Hrishikesh are from Sangli and had come to Ankali to visit his ailing grandmother. The stopped him for not wearing a helment when an argument broke out. Hrishikesh has been released on bail”.
