BENGALURU: In yet another case, a 22-year-old woman was sexually harassed by a male passenger on a Metro train around 9.30 am on Thursday. He was, however, caught during his bid to escape.
The man, who was standing behind the woman, allegedly behaved inappropriately with her, got off at the next Metro station and was attempting to flee by taking the escalator. However, the woman raised an alarm and the security staff at the station managed to nab the accused Lokesh Achar and handed him over to the police.
Lokesh has prior cases registered against him and was once caught trying to steal a mobile phone from a young woman. During questioning, it was revealed that he was a thief and 30 mobile phones and a two-wheeler were recovered from him.
Yashavanth Chavan, Chief Engineer and Chief PRO of BMRCL said the woman got on the train at Rajajinagar and when it reached Majestic interchange, the man tried to sexually assault her. The woman raised an alarm and the security staff nabbed him and handed him over to the police. “The safety of women passengers is our priority. We will take appropriate action in case passengers face trouble”, he added.
