HASSAN: The police have arrested three people, including two women, for the murder of a man and trying to make it seem like a road accident. The arrested are Mohan Kumar (29), Bhavya (26) and her mother Jayanthi (50).

Madhu (36), a mason, was found dead by the roadside on the Hassan-Belur section of the highway near Hoovinahalli Kaval on July 5. While initially it was suspected that he may have been run over by a vehicle, injuries on his face prompted his mother Rukmini to file a complaint suspecting murder.

Police Superintendent Mohammed Sujeetha said, “Madhu, who worked as a mason, had set out for work on July 4, but didn’t return home. The next day, after his body was found, his mother Rukmini lodged a complaint with the Hassan Rural police suspecting murder”.

“During investigation, it was revealed that Mohan Kumar, who was an autorickshaw driver and a friend of Madhu, had picked him up on July 4 evening when Madhu questioned him why he (Mohan Kumar) was frequenting his house. Mohan Kumar smothered Madhu to death and informed Bhavya and her mother. They then plotted to dump the body by the roadside and make it look like an accident”, the SP said.

The SP added that Madhu had earlier hired the services of Mohan and they had become friends. Madhu had also introduced Mohan to his family members. However, about two years ago, Madhu’s wife Bhavya got into an illicit relationship with Mohan Kumar and they decided to eliminate him as he was in the way of the relationship.
