MANDYA: A girl, likely in her late teens, was thrown into a paddy field and thrashed by her step-mother over a property dispute at D Malligere in Maddur taluk on Monday. Videos of the assault have gone viral on social media.
The girl Roja and her step-mother Bhagya got into an argument over some property issue when the latter pushed the girl into the slush and started assaulting her. The girl’ face was entirely in the slush, but the woman did not stop the attack.
The step-mother can be seen sitting on the girl’s abdomen and attacking her in the paddy field while workers go about planting paddy saplings at a little distance. A relative of the girl recorded the video, but none attempted to rescue her till the step-mother stopped the assault.
The victim later lodged a complaint with the Koppa police who have taken up further investigation.
