HAVERI: A woman and her boyfriend have been arrested by Hirekerur police for murdering her husband in Rattihalli taluk in Haveri district. The victim has been identified as Shafiullah Abdul Maheeb (38). Shafiullah was pushed into a lake by his wife Shaheena Banu and her lover Mubarak Khalandar Sab.
Mubarak and Shaheena Banu had been in an illicit relationship and Shaheena Banu was harassing Mubarak to marry her. He had told her that her husband was an obstacle to their marriage.
The couple had been planning the murder of Shafiuullah. Mubarak befriended Shafiuullah and asked him to visit the lake on July 27, where they had a liquor party before pushing him into the water and falsely claiming he had committed suicide.
The police investigation revealed injuries on the victim’s body, raising suspicions. After interrogation, the suspects admitted to the crime. The Hirekerur police have arrested the duo and registered a case.
