CHIKKABALLAPUR: A woman jumped into a huge open well along with her two daughters in a suicide bid, but an eight-year-old girl child survived as she was able to swim to safety.
Upset over domestic issues, Nagamma (38) of Jadenahalli village, jumped into the well near Seth Dinne near NH-44 along with her daughters Srinidhi (7) and Gangotri (9) on Friday evening. However, Gangotri swam to safety, walked back to her village and informed them after which a search and rescue effort was launched by the Fire and Emergency Services personnel.
The search had to be called off at night due to continuous rain and darkness. On Saturday, the woman’s body was fished out from the well and a search was still going on for the child.
Nagamma’s husband Satish is a truck driver and it is said that the two quarrelled often over financial issues. Upset over this, she may have ended her life, police said. The Chikkaballapur Rural police have registered a case and are investigating.
“We received a call around 6.30 pm that a woman had jumped into the well. Despite the rain, we launched a search. We had to abandon the search around 8.30 pm as it got dark and we resumed the search early today morning and recovered the woman’s body. We are looking for the child”, said Fire officer Basavaraj.
