Woman injured after petrol stored in can catches fire, engulfs house in Dharwad village

DHARWAD: A woman was severely injured in a fire at her house at Harijan Keri in Tadakod village of district after petrol stored in a can and kept near the fridge caught fire, engulfing the house.

Poornima Kallappa Hadimani (32) suffered 80 per cent burns and is in critical condition. She was first treated at the district hospital and later shifted to KIMS hospital where her condition is said to be critical. Her brother-in-law Yallappa was also injured while trying to rescue her.

The family had stored petrol for a wedding after rumours spread about petrol shortage. Many villagers had also stockpiled fuel. The others family were outside while Poornima was in the kitchen when the petrol can caught fire. Firefighters managed to control the blaze and the police are investigating the incident.
