Woman ends life over dowry harassment

BENGALURU: A married woman committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan, allegedly over harassment for dowry, in Cubbonpet in the city.

The deceased was identified as Aishwarya (24), a BE graduate graduate. Her parents had got her married to Manjunath in 2020. She ended her life at her house on 2nd Main Road, Cubbonpet, when no one was in the house.

Manjunath is working in a private company and Aishwarya’s family had given 240 grams of gold jewellery and Rs 2 lakhs in cash as dowry. Later, her family had given Rs 5 lakh as he demanded more dowry. The couple has a one-and-a-half-year-old child.

Fed up with the dowry harassment, Aishwarya ends her life after sending a death note to her family members on WhatsApp. She mentioned dowry harassment by her husband and family members in her dying declaration.

The Halasur Gate police visited the spot and further investigation is under way. The body was sent to Victoria Hospital for post-mortem examination.

A case has been registered against the husband Manjunath, father-in-law Rajendran, mother-in-law Ratna and husband’s sister Sudha.
