BENGALURU: A 28-year-old woman committed suicide by hanging due to alleged dowry harassment at Siddehalli in Bagalagunte police station limits. The deceased has been identified as Pujashree.
Pujashree got married to Nandish three years ago, and the couple have a daughter. Nandish works in a private company, while Pujashree was a cashier in a private bank.
Pujashree discovered Nandish’s extramarital affair a year after their marriage, which led to frequent quarrels.
Nandish also allegedly demanded dowry from Pujashree’s parents and the couple had undergone counselling and reconciliation multiple times. Despite assurances, Nandish continued to harass Pujashree.
Three days ago, Nandish assaulted Pujashree, leading her to return to her parents’ home. The next day, Nandish convinced Pujashree to return to his home with false promises. On Sunday morning, Pujashree was found dead by hanging.
A case has been registered at the Bagalagunte police station under sections related to dowry harassment. The body has been sent to Victoria Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Chandrakala, Pujashree’s mother, said her in-laws are harassed for dowry. “He has an extramarital affair. She came to our house three days ago after she quarrelled with her husband. But he came here and took her home. The next day, the son-in-law said over phone that she committed suicide. I don’t know what happened to her. The in-laws killed her”.
