TUMAKURU: A woman died and six others were hospitalised after consuming food prepared for a religious ritual at Bullasandra village in Madhugiri taluk. This comes close on the heels of four deaths reported in Chinnehahalli village in the same taluk.
The deceased was identified as Katamma (45). Last Saturday, a religious ritual was held for the local deities Muthurayaswamy and Kariyamma and food was served to the entire village. After consuming the food, some people had complained of vomiting and diarrhoea.
Following this, the assistant commissioner, tahsildar and health officials had rushed to the village and shifted the six sick people to the taluk hospital in Madhugiri where they are being treated. As a precautionary measure, those showing any symptoms are being treated by doctors and health officials at the government school in the village.
