CHIKKAMAGALUR: A woman died after the car she was travelling in plunged into a lake near Kalkere village in Belur taluk after the driver lost control, in the wee hours on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Vanitha (38) of Gavanahalli village in Chikkamagalur taluk.
Vanitha and her husband Manju had set out to visit the Hasanamba temple in Hassan when the accident occurred. Residents of Kalkere rushed to their aid and pulled the couple out of the water. They also managed to pull the car to the edge of the lake with a rope.
While Manju survived, Vanitha died despite efforts to revive her by administering cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR). A case has been registered at the Belur police station.
