KALABURAGI: In an unusual case, the police themselves have been accused of selling the call detail records (CDR) of a woman constable to a thief, leading to the breakup of her engagement. The constable has since approached Police Commissioner R Chetan seeking action against those responsible.
Some police personnel are alleged to have sold the CDR of the woman constable to Mahesh, a habitual thief, who was pursuing her. The thief used the CDR to harass her mentally. When she refused his proposal, Mahesh sent the call detail records to the constable’s fiance and told him that they are in a relationship. Following this, the man called off the engagement.
Following her complaint to the police commissioner, a probe has revealed that the woman constable’s phone number was deliberately linked to an unconnected case registered in the women’s police station and the CDR was sold to the habitual thief.
In the light of the revelations, senior police officials have taken the issue seriously and launched a thorough investigation.
