MANDYA: A woman has approached the police alleging constant harassment by a man to whom she was engaged four years ago, but the engagement was cancelled later on. She also alleged that the man has been coming in the way of other alliance proposals.

Chikkaballi Balakrishna a.k.a Balu, who identifies with Hindu groups, was engaged to Latha (name changed to protect identity) four years ago. But after her family came to know that he had lied about having a government job and that he had strained relations with some people of a particular community, the engagement was called off and the wedding cancelled.

About two weeks ago, Latha’s family had received an alliance offer for her, but later the prospective groom informed the family that they did not want to pursue the alliance after Balakrishna informed them that she had been engaged to him earlier.

“He sent pictures of us which were clicked during the earlier engagement to the prospective groom and claimed that I was engaged to him. He has been constantly harassing me over the last four years and has blocked at least seven alliances so far”, Latha said.

She also claimed that Balakrishna follows her wherever she goes. “At a fair recently, he approached me and threatened to attack me with acid. He also said he is not bothered about police cases. He has made life miserable for me and my family and I had even contemplated suicide”, she said.

Latha claimed that one of Balakrishna’s aides passes on information about the goings-on in her house to Balakrishna. “The police asked us for proof and now there is evidence. They should act against him and ensure justice to me and my family”, Latha said.
