Woman claims 7-month-old son snatched by childlifter on bus, turns out child belongs to somebody else

The woman claimed that a childlifter took away her seven-month-old son at the Malavalli bus stand when she was alighting.

MANDYA: A childless woman attempted to mislead the police saying that she had lost ‘her’ seven-month-old son while travelling in a bus from Channapatna to Malavalli. She had produced a photograph of another couple’s baby to make the claim.

Savitha, a resident of Vaddarakoppalu in T Narsipur taluk, had lodged a complaint with the Malavalli police that an unidentified woman had snatched her baby when she was travelling in a KSRTC bus. She claimed that she got on the bus at Channapatna and had handed her child to another woman who was seated as there was heavy rush.

The unidentified woman claimed that she too would alight at Malavalli, but by the time she got off the bus with her luggage, the other woman escaped with the child, Savitha had claimed.

The police, who began investigating the case, sent out information to all police stations on Tuesday about the ‘missing’ child with complete description and the photograph. On seeing the photograph, the child’s biological father called the police and informed them.

When the police tried to question Savitha about this, she pretended to have had a bout of seizure following which the police admitted her to the VIMS hospital in Mandya. She even refused to speak to the media from the hospital bed.
