HUBBALLI: A man committed suicide after he brutally assaulted his wife and children with a machete at Sulla village on Wednesday morning.
The deceased have been identified as Fakirappa and his son Shreyas (6). Fakirappa and Mudakavva were married 10 years ago and the villagers alleged that he always suspected her character. They also said that he was extremely drunk and mentally depressed and they often fought over the same issue.
On Wednesday morning, Fakirappa, who was drunk, suddenly increased the volume of the TV and planned to kill his wife, suspecting her character. Mudakavva started screaming during the attack and three of their children woke up from their sleep and started crying. They tried to break up the fight, but he got angry and attacked them with a machete, leaving them seriously injured.
When the neighbours opened the door, they found Mudakavva and three children in a semi-conscious state after the brutal assault. They immediately shifted the woman and children to KIMS, Hubballi and informed the police. However, six-year-old Shreyas did not respond to treatment and died. It is suspected that after realising his mistake, Fakirappa hanged himself and died.
A case has been registered at the Hubballi Rural police station and further investigation is under way.
“For the last few months, he drank heavily and suffered from depression. He attacked his wife and children with a machete. When we checked in the morning, no one came out of the house and we had to break open the door. They had some family issues”, said Kalmesh, Fakirappa’s relative.
