BENGALURU: A young woman employee was charred to death after a fire broke out in an electric scooter showroom on Rajkumar Road in Rajajinagar on Tuesday evening. An electrical short circuit is believed to have caused the fire.

The deceased has been identified as Priya (20), who was trapped inside and succumbed to severe burn injuries. The incident occurred when a short circuit in one of the scooters caused the entire showroom to catch fire, gutting over 30 electric scooters.

At least 10 people were working at the showroom, owned by Sunder, which was established three years ago. All others, including a child, escaped safely.

On getting information about the incident, the police and four fire tenders reached the spot, and firefighters struggled to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings.

The Rajajinagar police have launched an investigation into the incident. Priya’s body has been shifted to the hospital for post-mortem examination.

Police said, “There were no precautions have taken at the showroom. We are recording the statement of the showroom owner. We cannot guess the cause of fire. One death is confirmed and at least  20-25 vehicles gutted in fire. Our first priority is saving lives than finding cause of fire. We yet to get a report of estimated loss in short circuit”.
